The Hawaiʻi State Department of Education has updated HIDOE Vendor List No. E21-15, naming Hoot Reading as an approved literacy tutoring provider. Hoot Reading is certified in the state and can immediately begin working with schools and districts.
The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for innovative approaches to learning, prompting a renewed focus on enhancing student education and support. In response, the HIDOE School Transformation Branch (STB) compiled a list of high-impact literacy tutoring providers that offer high-quality one-on-one or small-group tutoring to K-12 students across Hawaiʻi. Supplemental academic support like high-dosage one-on-one or small group instruction is a proven method to increase literacy skills, proficiency, and confidence in reading. Tutoring can be provided online, in-person, or through a blended model. State schools, including Title I schools, may utilize a high-quality tutoring solution to support students and use Title I funding (when applicable) to improve academic achievement.
Hoot Reading specializes in flexible high-dosage online literacy tutoring to meet each student and school’s needs. Lessons are 30 minutes and can occur before, during, or after school hours - at school or home. Hoot’s assessment-driven approach ensures each tutor can create a customized instructional pathway specific to each student. All tutors for the Hoot Reading program hold a Bachelor of Education degree or higher and have years of classroom teaching experience. Their assessments and instruction methods follow a structured literacy approach based on the Science of Reading, ensuring the highest quality of evidence-based instruction.
