Hoot Reading and BGC Canada celebrate their partnership’s most recent program, which supported over 500 BGC Canada at-home students through 3,000 hours of live, 1:1 reading lessons. Through assessment-informed instruction, students taking part in the Fall and Winter cohorts mastered key foundational skills for successful reading, specifically strengthening proficiency in word reading and decoding.
Through funding from TD Canada, Hoot Reading partnered with BGC Canada to expand the Raising Readers program. This program was implemented to support vulnerable communities as they recover and rebuild from the COVID-19 pandemic through high-quality virtual programming, providing students with evidence-based literacy instruction. Since its launch in Spring 2021, the Raising Readers program has expanded to over 29 BGC Clubs across Canada. This partnership has provided over 20,000 1:1 reading lessons to students and impacted over 1,500 students across the numerous programming cycles.
"We're thrilled to witness the impact of our Raising Readers program in partnership with BGC Canada,” said Maya Kotecha, co-CEO and Co-Founder of Hoot Reading. “We are so grateful for the support provided by TD Canada, which allows this collaboration to transform childhood literacy and make a lasting difference in the lives of young learners nationwide."
“At BGC Canada, we are proud to support children with vital, evidence-based literacy instruction," said Rachael MacKenzie-Neill, Vice-President, Development & Public Affairs at BCG Canada. "Partnerships like this allow us to make a positive impact on the lives of children in so many of our communities."
