As part of MI Kids Back on Track, Hoot Reading has been listed by the Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators (MAISA) as an approved high-impact tutoring program to offer high-quality literacy tutoring services to students across Michigan (via Section 23g of the 2023-24 School Aid Act). Hoot offers one-to-one online literacy tutoring with qualified teachers, improving literacy proficiency levels through personalized support that meets each student's individual needs.
Hoot’s evidence-based literacy support aligns with the five key characteristics of an effective high-impact tutoring program, as outlined by the National Student Support Accelerator:
Lessons happen regularly three+ times/week for 10+ weeks
Hoot recommends three lessons per week for 10 weeks. All lessons are live to create a safe and private learning experience where tutoring can be customized to students' abilities.
Consistent, well-trained tutor
Teacher-led tutoring has the greatest impact on literacy outcomes. All Hoot tutors are qualified teachers with a B.Ed (or higher) and classroom teaching experience.
Aligns with high-quality curriculum
Hoot’s instruction and curriculum align with a structured literacy approach informed by the Science of Reading.
1:1 instruction
Lessons are always one-to-one and assessment-informed, providing a data-driven, individualized plan to improve skill development and enthusiasm.
Integrated into the school day
Tutoring during the school day significantly improves academic performance and attendance, especially for those who need it most. Hoot partners with schools to integrate tutoring into their daily schedules seamlessly.
