Summer Hoot Camps include:

• 1:1 literacy instruction over the Hoot Reading App with qualified teachers.
• Assessments are completed at the beginning and end of each summer camp to track progress and tailor lessons to each individual student.
• Access to Hoot's library of over 2,000 decodable and complex multi-genre texts, available to students during and outside lessons.
• Hoot's Live Help Desk, available any time lessons are taking place.

Our studies show that students make reading gains in the 25-minute format in as little as 15 lessons. For some students, the 25-minute format is ideal as it offers short bursts of learning and does not add the expectation or pressure of sitting still for long durations.

While there may not be practice 'assignments' to complete between lessons, practice and reading together are encouraged! Each lesson is paced to be high-impact for 25-minute intervals. On average, children who complete 12+ lessons advance oral fluency by 152%.

Students will go to app.hootreading.com and enter the credentials provided to the student. 

Students require a laptop, computer, or tablet and a stable internet connection to access the Hoot Reading app. The device must have a camera, a microphone, and a speaker, and headphones are recommended to help minimize distractions during the lesson.

All teachers in Hoot’s Teacher Network are selected by our standard qualifications and undergo a selection process, including a Q&A session with teacher specialists, a mock lesson on the Hoot app, and a background and abuse registry check. Hoot’s Teacher Network qualifications include:

• B.Ed or higher
• K – 6 classroom teaching experience
• Strong communication skills
• Passion for reading and working with young children
