About Hoot Reading

Hoot Reading is a leading online tutoring provider delivering 1:1, evidence-based literacy instruction with qualified teachers, at scale. Originally incubated through a research collaboration with Nokia Research Lab, Sesame Workshop (creators of Sesame Street), and the Joan Ganz Cooney Center, Hoot partners with K–12 school districts, educational organizations, and families across North America to transform children’s lives through literacy.

We are entering an important phase of growth and evolution and are looking for a strong operational leader who is excited to step into real ownership and help strengthen and scale our delivery model.

The Opportunity

This is a full-time maternity leave contract (anticipated 12 months), offering significant executive-level ownership and impact.

This is not a maintenance role. It is a build-and-lead role.

You will step into end-to-end operational leadership across our district (B2B) and family (B2C) programs, ensuring excellence in program delivery, tutor teacher network performance, and instructional reliability. You will work closely with senior leadership and play a critical role in strengthening systems that directly impact thousands of students.

While this role begins as a contract, we are looking for someone who is energized by opportunity, excited to drive results quickly, and motivated to grow alongside the organization as it evolves.

What You’ll Own

End-to-End Program Operations - Own all post-sale program execution across B2B and B2C lines of business. Make thoughtful decisions across quality, cost, and speed to ensure reliable, scalable delivery aligned with company goals.

Program Implementation & Delivery Excellence - Lead implementation planning and execution across schools and families. Translate partner goals into clear operational plans and monitor performance against KPIs tied to student outcomes, attendance, assessments, and consistency.

Lesson Reliability & Escalation Management - Oversee daily lesson operations to ensure strong lesson coverage, effective Tier 1–3 escalation pathways, and rapid issue resolution. Continuously refine processes to improve service reliability and partner experience.

Tutor Operations & Network Health - Provide leadership across the full tutor lifecycle, including high-volume recruitment during peak hiring cycles, ongoing steady-state hiring, onboarding, deployment, quality assurance, performance management, and retention. Plan proactively for seasonal ramp-ups to ensure sufficient tutor capacity ahead of program launches. Maintain a high-performing, engaged, and reliable tutor network that consistently meets quality and coverage expectations.

Quality, Systems & Scalability - Build and strengthen scalable systems, reporting structures, and operational playbooks. Identify risks early and make decisive calls to protect program quality, student outcomes, and partner trust.

Key Success Metrics

  • Operational efficiency and cost-to-serve
  • Implementation fidelity (attendance, assessment completion, student–teacher consistency, outcomes)
  • Lesson coverage and delivery reliability
  • Teacher hiring volume, efficiency and onboarding speed
  • Teacher network quality and retention
  • Customer satisfaction and NPS

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of progressive operations leadership experience
  • Experience managing workforce or service-based operations at scale
  • Strong systems thinker who can build structure in evolving environments
  • Comfortable making high-impact decisions with imperfect information
  • Analytical and KPI-driven, with strong operational judgment
  • Effective cross-functional collaborator with strong communication skills
  • Experience in edtech, tutoring, education services, or multi-site service delivery is a strong asset
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Educators with an interest in teacher operations and instructional quality monitoring are encouraged to apply

You’ll Thrive Here If You

  • Want meaningful ownership and real influence
  • Are energized by building and improving systems
  • Are comfortable operating in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • See contract roles as an opportunity to demonstrate impact and accelerate your leadership growth
  • Care deeply about student outcomes and educational equity
